A black Pennsylvania teenager has been charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of his white classmate.
According to police, the mother of another teenager called them after her son received a Snapchat picture from the accused killer Maxwell Morton, 16, posing next to the body of his dead classmate, Ryan Mangan, 16, with the caption “Maxwell” across the top, WPXI-TV reported.
The picture “depicted the victim sitting in the chair with a gunshot wound to the face. It also depicts a black male taking the selfie with his face facing the camera,” according to the police affidavit.
According to police, the son of the woman who called them also received a message with the selfie that read, “Told you I cleaned up the shells” and “Ryan was not the last one.”
Although Snapchat pictures disappear within seconds, the teen saved it on his phone before it was deleted.
Mangan’s body was found by his mother in their Jeanette home, with a gunshot wound to the head, according to WPXI-TV.
After authorities identified Morton from the photo, they executed a search warrant Friday and found a 9mm handgun, according to WPXI-TV.
Morton confessed to the killing and has been charged as an adult, Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck confirmed Friday.
Morton was denied bail.
Police are still looking for a motive.
