All hell breaks loose at NBC! ‘Brokaw wants Williams’ head on platter’

Tom Brokaw, former NBC News anchor and seasoned journalist, is reportedly livid over Brian Williams’ repeated lies saying his helicopter was shot down by enemy fire during the Iraq War invasion.

Williams, 55, admitted Wednesday, that he had made up a ‘memory’ that the Chinook he was in was attacked by an enemy RPG during the invasion of Iraq in 2003 – a ‘memory’ he had used his high-profile platform to broadcast to millions of viewers for over a decade.

Former colleague and “Nightly News” anchor, Brokaw was working with Williams when he first began spewing his tall-tale and apparently had his suspicions, according to the New York Post.

“Tom Brokaw and [former NBC New President] Steve Capus knew this was a false story for a long time and have been extremely uncomfortable with it,” a source told the Post.

“Brokaw wants Williams’ head on a platter,” the NBC source said. “He is making a lot of noise at NBC that a lesser journalist or producer would have been immediately fired or suspended for a false report.”

Williams still hosted “Nightly News” Thursday and made no mention of the brewing scandal.

Behind closed doors at NBC headquarters it’s another story. Secretive meetings among management over the incident have reportedly left lower-level employees anxious.

There seems to be a tendency among NBC brass to want to believe Williams’ excuse of having “conflated” his version of what happened in Iraq – mistakenly getting the memory mixed it up in his mind.

“He’s not going to be suspended or reprimanded in any way. He has the full support of NBC News,” a source said.

“There have been meetings about it all day. They are talking it very seriously,” the NBC source said. “But we believe that Brian’s apology on the air speaks for himself. He admitted over time he conflated the events.”

That attitude is not sitting well with a lot of NBC employees according to reports.

CNN host, Brian Stelter sounded off in an interview after talking with NBC personnel.

“I can’t find many people at NBC that think he’s making a mistake. There’s a lot of anger at NBC among people who think he might be misleading,” Stelter said.

But when it comes to Williams’ job – or his head on a platter – all that matter is what the bosses think.

“NBC bosses don’t understand how serious this is. Nobody in a leadership position is talking to the troops. Nobody has addressed it,” the NBC source said.

Another longtime NBC employee called Williams a “real pompous piece of s—t,” according to the Post.

“Oh, the fireworks that are going off inside,” he said. “It’s embarrassing. He’s the face on NBC. He’s a liar.

“Everyone knew it.”
