This is the kind of story that makes gun grabbers salivate.
A 3-year-old boy got hold of a loaded handgun from his mother’s purse in a Albuquerque, N.M., motel Saturday and fired one shot that wounded both his mother and father.
Authorities believe the toddler was searching for an iPod when he stumbled upon the gun.
Police said the bullet first hit the father in the buttocks, then hit the mother, Monique Villescas, who is eight months pregnant, in the shoulder.
“It was like if I was to get up shake your hand and sat back down. That’s how fast it happened,” the child’s father, Justin Reynolds, told KOB-TV.” All of a sudden we heard a gun go off and the next minute I realized my girlfriend was bleeding. Then, I sat down and realized I was shot, too.”
Reynolds said he called 911 and used some towels to help stop Villescas’ bleeding.
“I was more worried about my girlfriend than myself and anything else that was going on. And my son because I didn’t know if he had shot himself or not. He was shocked and crying. It was traumatizing,” he said.
The child’s 2-year-old sister was also present but unhurt.
Police said Reynolds was treated and released, while Villescas was hospitalized in stable condition.
According to police, both parents are being investigated for felony criminal negligence.
These parents need a lesson in responsible gun ownership, as these are the types of tales that fuel the “disarm America” crowd.
