Fear not, parents. Your children are being protected from fictional magical rings.
Exhibit A: the case of a 9-year-old Texas boy who was suspended from school for declaring he could make a classmate disappear.
Aiden Steward, a student of Kermit Elementary School in Winkler County, Texas, planned to use a ring made in Middle Earth’s Mount Doom. Fantasy genre lovers may recognize Mount Doom. It’s a fictional volcano from “The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies,” a movie the boy watched days before the incident, according to the Daily News.

“It sounded unbelievable,” Jason Steward, the child’s father, told the Daily News. “Kids act out movies that they see. When I watched Superman as a kid, I went outside and tried to fly.”
Aiden told a classmate Thursday that he could put the ring on his head and make him invisible.
“I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence. If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back,” the elder Steward wrote in an email, according to the Daily News.
This is Aiden’s third suspension from a school he started attending six months ago, and each infraction was more ridiculous than the other.
The first time, he was disciplined for referring to a fellow student as “black,” and the second time, it was for bringing his favorite book, “The Big Book of Knowledge,” to school.
“He loves that book,” Jason Steward told the Daily News. “They were studying the solar system, and he took it to school. He thought his teacher would be impressed.”
Unfortunately for Aiden, his teacher found an illustration of a pregnant woman in the encyclopedia-like book’s section on pregnancy.
Oh, the horror.
