Since the Islamist massacre of 17 people in Paris in January, liberal media outlets have been tripping over themselves to spread the word that one element of reporting about the outrage has been all wrong.
Politically correct coverage of Islamic immigration denies there are “no-go zones” in Europe, particularly France, where secular authorities have effectively ceded control to criminal gang and Islamic clerics intent on enforcing a brand of Sharia law in lands far from the Middle East.
Even Fox News has backed down, but not some of its most influential contributors – such as columnist and commentator Charles Krauthammer.
But another conservative columnist and author, Mark Steyn, isn’t backing down either.
Steyn was on Canadian television’s “The Source” with host Ezra Levant on Thursday to make the point that “no-go zones” do exist in European countries and have for years. Governments can deny it, he said, but Muslim immigrants are setting up enclaves in Western countries where Sharia law might not be the law of the land, but it’s the law of the neighborhood.
Steyn, an occasional guest host on the Rush Limbaugh show, doesn’t suffer fools gladly – and liberal, self-deluding media fools at all.
Comparing militant Islam to “a gangland mentality … that is rooted in holy text,” he said the Western political and media establishments don’t realize the danger posed by the existence of “no go zones” that signify a radical Islamic culture taking root.
The first signs, he said, are incidents of anti-Semitism – such as the murder of four Jews in a kosher supermarket on Jan. 9, the last victims of the killings that started Jan. 7 at the satirical newspapers Charlie Hebdo.
What those who make excuses for Islamist violence don’t realize, Steyn said, is that “it starts with the Jews but it never ends there. It will go for women, and gays, and eventually everyone.”
And it really starts with “no-go zones.”
