Trey Gowdy puts State Dept. hack on the grill over Benghazi

Tired of Democrat complaints and State Department foot-dragging on his committee’s investigation into the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy put the Obama administration’s top official in charge of dealing with the House through the wringer on Tuesday.

The South Carolina Republican was clearly frustrated with the State Department’s unwillingness to make witnesses available to the House Select Committee on Benghazi. The Obama administration’s excuse has been allowing the interviews could not only hinder a Justice Department investigation but actually endanger State Department employees.

Gowdy was having none of it. And his line of questioning made Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Joel Rubin painfully aware of that.

What makes it worse is Rubin’s official job title is deputy assistant secretary for House affairs – meaning he’s actually the liaison between John Kerry’s State Department and House Republicans.

Dealing with Trey Gowdy is his job, in other words.

He’s about as bad at it as the president. Fish rot from the head down.
