Talk about jumping to conclusions.
A North Carolina Air Force veteran, and mother of two, who served in Kuwait was stunned to find a note on her car after a recent trip to the grocery store.
Mary Claire Caine parked her vehicle Friday in an area reserved for military vets at a Harris Teeter supermarket in Wilmington, and found the disturbing note taped to her window when she returned to her car, according to NBC affiliate WECT.
“Maybe [you] can’t read the sign you parked in front of,” the note stated. “This space is reserved for those who fought for America … not you. Thanks, Wounded Vet.”
Caine said she was hurt and confused.
“For a split second I thought, ‘Am I a worthy enough veteran to park in this spot?’ And, then I got very angry at myself for even considering that,” she told WECT.
”I think they took one look at me when I got out of my car and saw that I was a woman and assumed I wasn’t a veteran and assumed I hadn’t served my country,” Caine continued.
The vet said the person responsible for the note “owe me and every other female service member who’s fighting now and who’s fought in the past, an apology for jumping to conclusions.”
