A world-famous actor, reality TV star and body-builder known for working out on and near Southern California train tracks was struck and killed by a train in Burbank over the weekend.
Greg Plitt, who also served as an inspirational trainer and fitness expert, was killed by a MetroLink commuter train just hours after posting a photo on his Facebook page, according to local NBC affiliate KNBC.
Plitt, a year 2000 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, served in the Army for five years. After leaving military service, he worked on the soap opera “Days Of Our Lives” playing Henderson, and on the reality series “Workout” as himself. He had just begun a new project, starring in a Bravo TV reality series called “Friends to Lovers,” which premiered Jan. 12.
KNBC reported:
Plitt was pronounced dead at the scene, said Burbank police Sgt. Scott Meadows, who said the fatality “was not clearly a suicide” and remained under active investigation.
A former U.S. Army Ranger, Plitt grew to fame as a fitness guru, model and motivational speaker. His physique was used as the model for a computer-generated character in the 2009 movie “Watchmen,” according to Popular Mechanics.
Witnesses at the scene reported he was holding a video camera at the time of the accident, according to ABC affiliate KABC.
“He had on all black. The train went by. I saw him stumble over the tracks. He had a camcorder in his hand,” Metrolink passenger Victor Crowell told the station, which reported:
Plitt, 37, appeared on TV shows and movies and was also on the cover of more than 250 fitness magazines just in the last eight years.
Burbank police say Plitt was filming with two other people on the train tracks, just north of the Burbank Metrolink Station, when he was struck and killed by a Metrolink train.
