Terrifying: Rookie officer’s body cam captures final moments before fatal shooting

Body camera footage from the last moments of an Arizona police officer’s life make terrifyingly clear how little time officers can have to react when seemingly routine situations turn deadly.

The video released by Flagstaff police shows rookie Officer Tyler Stewart, 24, responding to a domestic violence call on Dec. 27. Stewart talks briefly with the man involved, Robert Smith, 28, and all seems normal.

It’s only when Stewart tries to search Smith for weapons that things turn ugly, fast.

Stewart died of his wounds. Smith shot himself at the scene.

The video, broadcast by KSAZ, does not include the young officer’s death, but some viewers still might find it disturbing.

And the reflexively anti-cop crowd might find it makes their arguments empty.
