NFL player with a big heart scores big for young girl with serious heart condition

In the world of sports, sometimes players don’t see beyond the game.

But that isn’t the case for one NFL player.

Menelik Watson, a tackle for the Oakland Raiders was moved to take action after a visit from a special young girl.

Ava Urrea, 4, got to meet the team and received a signed helmet and other gifts including getting to watch the Raiders face the Buffalo Bills, the Huffington Post reported.

The trip was arranged by Touchdown to Make a Difference, run by Fox Sports announcer Jay Glazer.

Ava, who was born with hypoplastic left-heart syndrome (a condition that interrupts normal blood flow through the heart) and has had 14 surgeries, was given a special gift from Watson.

A week’s pay.

Eddie Urrea, Ava’s father, said he was approached by Watson when they were leaving the game, according to KVVU.

“And that’s when he gave us his paycheck,” he said.

After taxes the check amounts to about $18,000.

According to KVVU, Watson went to the payroll department to instruct them to cut the check directly to the Urreas.

And the funds are going to come in handy.

“Yeah, we have a few medical bills,” Urrea said.
