When a Dem gets caught in a lie . . . official’s BIZARRE on-camera reaction

For Louisiana Democrats, it was no star turn.

Guerilla filmmaker James O’Keefe headed to the Bayou State last week in the run-up to Saturday’s Senate election to try to get a top Louisiana Democrat to correct and apologize for a recorded statement accusing him of wiretapping a U.S. Senate office – a felony.

(The statement stemmed from an incident in January 2010 when O’Keefe and three others were caught in Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office, claiming they were there to do repair work on the office phones. Originally charged with a felony, O’Keefe pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in May 2010 and was sentenced to probation, community service and a fine of $1,500.)

The apology wasn’t in the cards, but another piece of O’Keefe political drama was.

Accompanied by a videographer, O’Keefe visited state Democratic Party office to speak to Communications Director Kirstin Alvanitakis, who made the wiretapping accusation on Tuesday.

As this video shows, Alvanitakis didn’t just refuse to talk, she literally fled the scene.

“We’re asking you to apologize or you’re going to face a defamation lawsuit,” O’Keefe told Alvanitakis as she walked away. “We’re going to sue you for defamation. It’s simple. All you have to do is apologize.”

Eventually, he gave up.

“Well, she doesn’t want to apologize. She walked away from us,” O’Keefe told the camera. “This is an example of the type of corruption here in Louisiana. It’s very simple. There was no felony. We filed complaints, ethics complaints, with the Department of Justice.

“We want these people brought to justice. And the Democratic Party of Louisiana needs to answer for the corruption … We expect nothing less than a full apology or there will be a defamation lawsuit.”
