‘Happy’ singer Pharrell dared to go against black narrative; Brown was a bully, ‘asking for trouble’

Pharrell was overcome with tears on Oprah when he watched people dance to his “Happy” hit.

Pharrell Williams is best known for his smash upbeat hit “Happy,” but he’s made many of his fans feel the opposite after speaking out to Ebony magazine about the shooting of Michael Brown.

“It looked very bully-ish; that in itself I had a problem with,” Williams told Ebony.

“Not with the kid, but with whatever happened in his life for him to arrive at a place where that behavior is OK. Why aren’t we talking about that?”

“I believe that Ferguson officer should be punished and serve time. He used excessive force on a human being who was merely a child,” Williams said. “He was a baby, man. The boy was walking in the middle of the street when the police supposedly told him to ‘get the —- on the sidewalk.’ If you don’t listen to that, after just having pushed a store owner, you’re asking for trouble.

“But you’re not asking to be killed. Some of these youth feel hunted and prayed upon, and that’s why that officer needs to be punished.”

“I’m heartbroken over the news of no indictment in Ferguson,” he later wrote. “Let’s all pray for peace.”

Some fans were unhappy that the 41-year-old singer dared to bring up the fact that Brown behaved like a bully and they showed their displeasure on Twitter. Here are a few examples from Celebrity News Cloud:

“Mike Brown was a bully says Pharrell Williams. So do we get a pass to shoot bullies in society? Way to go Pharrell.”

“Pharrell Williams said that Michael Brown displayed bullyish behaviour and asked why aren’t we talking about that… *deletes blow remix* (sic).”

But not everyone had such a narrow point of view:
