Media pursue Bill Cosby rape story, but white liberals get a pass; remember Bill Clinton?

The media continues to hound famed comedian and actor Bill Cosby about allegations that he sexually assaulted several women. Charges that were brought to the surface by comedian Hannibal Burress recently.

After canceling several TV appearances, Cosby and wife Camille appeared on NPR’s “Weekend Edition Saturday” to talk about loaning their African-American art recently to the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art.

Host Scott Simon touched on the allegations at the end of the interview.

“This question gives me no pleasure, Mr. Cosby, but there have been serious allegations raised about you in recent days,” Simon said. “You’re shaking your head no. I’m in the news business. I have to ask the question. Do you have any response to those charges?”

Simon said he wanted to give Cosby “the chance” to answer his critics. Only awkward silence followed, as Cosby refused to answer.

Rape allegations, as serious as they are, require a thorough examination by the media. But the media has not treated Cosby in the same gracious manner as they have, say, former President Bill Clinton, Breitbart.com pointed out.

Like Cosby, Clinton had numerous sexual charges leveled against him, even settling one case out of court. Unlike with Cosby, though, the media went out of their way to offer excuses for Clinton and discredit his accusers.

Cosby shares two interesting commonalities with others who have been attacked by the media: his skin color and outspoken nature.

The media, for example, was quick to attack Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas during his congressional confirmation hearings over charges raised by former aide, Anita Hill. Liberal reporters also helped push conservative Herman Cain out of his presidential campaign when similar charges were lodged against him.

It may all be part of the media’s effort to control the black vote by targeting popular black leaders who disagree with the status quo. But Cosby’s attorney, John P. Schmitt, isn’t taking the allegations lying down.

“Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced,” Schmitt said, according to a statement made on Cosby’s official Facebook page. “The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment. He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work.”
