TLC may cancel “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” after learning that June “Mama June” Shannon has begun dating a registered sex offender.
Shannon is the mother of Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, the 9-year-old star of the series.
After breaking with Alana’s father, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, Shannon rekindled her relationship with Mark McDaniel, 53. The two had previously dated but had not seen each other for 10 years after McDaniel was convicted in 2004 of aggravated child molestation.
Shannon was dating McDaniel when prosecutors said he molested an 8-year-old child, “forcing oral sex,” according to TMZ.
TMZ did not identify the child, but said it was “one of June’s relatives” with whom “June has contact.”
McDaniel, now a registered sex offender, was released in March after serving 10 years.
“TLC is not currently in production on HERE COMES HONEY BOO BOO. We are very concerned about this new information and are reassessing the future of the series,” the cable channel said in a statement to TMZ.
Shannon did not respond to requests for comment, TMZ said.
“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” completed its fourth season this summer. Here are a few moments from what may soon be known as happier days:
