Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly schooled comedian Jon Stewart on white privilege Thursday, pointing out that Asian-Americans are better off financially than whites.
Appearing on Stewart’s “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central to plug his new book, “Killing Patton,” O’Reilly asked whether Asians are the truly privileged Americans.
“You think I’m sitting here because I’m white? What are you, a moron? I’m sitting here because I’m obnoxious” O’Reilly said. “If you work hard, if you get educated, if you’re an honest person, you can make it in America.”
Stewart wasn’t buying any of O’Reilly’s theories.
“I want you to admit that there is such a thing as white privilege,” Stewart said. “I just want you to say, ‘I’m terribly, terribly wrong on this.’”
Of course, O’Reilly admitted no such thing to his favorite sparring partner. The two opinionated TV hosts with polar opposite viewpoints are known to appear on each other’s shows to debate the hot-button issues of the day. Perhaps their most famous confrontation was dubbed, “The rumble in the air conditioned auditorium,” held at George Washington University in 2012.
Wednesday’s show was not so epic, but it was entertaining nonetheless, as the pair shouted at each other and exchanged the usual cynical barbs. Stewart proffered the typical liberal, white-guilt mantra by insisting that much of the success of white Americans is attributed to so-called privilege, while O’Reilly poked hole after hole into the assertions.
