‘He’s Italian when he feels like it!’ Mayor infuriates New Yorkers by skipping Bronx Columbus Day Parade

Bill de Blasio should know better than to anger fellow New Yorkers.

To the chagrin of many Big Apple residents, the New York City mayor missed the Bronx Columbus Day Parade Sunday.

“He’s Italian when he feels like it.” parade attendee Joe Carfora told a NY Post reporter. “This is the second largest Columbus parade in the city! When Bloomberg was mayor, he would show up every year. De Blasio’s his last name!” he said, noting the Mayor’s surname is of Italian descent.

Skipping the parade is not a wise political move for the mayor since the Morris Park district, which has one of the largest Italian-American populations in the city,  is one of the few de Blasio lost on Election Day.

Speculation regarding the mayor’s lack of public appearances is focused on the controversy swirling around Rachel Noerdlinger who is Mrs. de Blasio’s chief of staff and former spokeswoman for Al Sharpton’s National Action Network.

Noerdlinger has been involved in several questionable incidents including dating and living with a convicted killer.

Mayor de Blasio has been non responsive to questions regarding Noerdlinger but residents aren’t accepting that as an excuse for him to duck the parade.

“He should have attended [anyway],” said Tom Melillo who believes the mayor avoided the parade because of the ongoing scandal.

A spokesman for the mayor said that de Blasio skipped the parade for the far more benign reasons of taking some family time and planning out the week ahead.

Like most liberals de Blasio expressed issues with Columbus “There are some troubling things in his history,” he said, but justified his participation in festivities by saying “When I’m out here marching on Columbus Day, I’m thinking about the pride in my Italian heritage,”

NY Governor Andrew Cuomo also skipped the parade but drew less venom from the public.

Both Cuomo and de Blasio marched in the Columbus Day Parade Monday on Fifth Avenue.
