Police receive chilling anonymous threat of beheadings aimed at schools in three cities

Police have scrambled to place officers at all schools in three Rhode Island cities after receiving a chilling threat to behead elementary school students.

The cryptic note specified that “beheading is planned,” Warwick Police Chief Steven McCartney told WPRO-AM on Wednesday, according to NECN.com.

Since the Johnston police received the anonymous threat via mail on Tuesday, officers have been stationed at every school in Warwick, Cranston and Johnston and will remain there through Friday.

Authorities have not determined the validity of the threat and will not comment any further on the letter, but are investigating.

While schools are taking extra precautions, such as canceling recess and not letting students wait around outside the building, many parents have opted to keep their children at home.

McCartney encouraged parents not to do that.

“The schools may be the safest place to be,” he told WPRO-AM.
