Brittany Maynard has always embraced life, enjoying it to the fullest measure.
Now the 29-year-old Oregon woman who once climbed Mount Kilimanjaro is ready to accept death — on her terms.
Maynard was diagnosed with brain cancer last January and after being told in April she has six months to live, has decided to end her own life — legally.
Along with her entire family, she moved from San Francisco to Portland, Ore., where the state legislature passed the Death with Dignity Act, which will allow her doctor to prescribe the medication needed to die, according to People Magazine.
Since being enacted in 1997, the law has been used by 752 people to die.

But Maynard insists it’s not suicide, saying “being able to choose to go with dignity is less terrifying” that the death she will likely experience otherwise, according to experts.
“There is not a cell in my body that is suicidal or that wants to die,” she told People Magazine in an exclusive interview. “I want to live. I wish there was a cure for my disease but there’s not.”
November 1 is the day Maynard chose to die.
“I really wanted to celebrate my husband’s birthday, which is October 30,” she said. “I’m getting sicker, dealing with more pain and seizures and difficulties so I just selected it.”
She’s convinced it’s the right decision.
Maynard has joined forces with Compassion & Choices in an online video campaign to draw attention to push for “expanding death-with-dignity laws nationwide,” People reported.
