Dancing goes ducking crazy! Dad, uncles join Sadie on stage, ‘family sticks together’

Seventeen-year-old Sadie Robertson was a winner on the “Dancing with the Stars” dance floor again Monday night, taking near perfect scores as the show hits its stride for the season.

But it was her comments off the stage that really took the prize.

The Week 4 theme was the dancers reflecting on the most memorable year of their lives and for young Sadie, that wasn’t too hard: the past year when the mega-hit reality show ran into a mega-controversy over patriarch Phil Robertson’s published comments about homosexuality.

In an interview that aired before Sadie and partner Mark Ballas wowed the crowd with a samba routine with a “Duck Dynasty” theme (naturally), the teenager talked about the show’s effect on her life, her family and the importance of faith in dealing with it all.

“My grandpa said some things that upset some people and the press came after him,” Sadie said, possibly downplaying the uproar that took on a life of its own. “It was really hard to see my grandpa getting attacked like that.”

But even at 17, she’s learned to live with the unique problems celebrity brings.

“If you’re holding the football, you’re going to get tackled,” she said.

And for Sadie, and the rest of the Robertson clan, there’s one thing that keeps them getting up again.

“My family would not be where we are without our faith. That’s what’s carried us this whole way,” she said. “You know, we put our faith in God and we like to share that with everybody”

On Monday night, she also shared the stage with her famous family, as Sadie’s father, Willie, and uncles Jase, Jep and Si Robertson sat on hand, with trademark bird callers and biblical beards, then greeted the couple at the song’s end.

As Sadie put it in the pre-taped interview:

“Family sticks together.”

On stage and off.
