DC Comics have angered fans with a new line of superhero T-shirts now being called sexist.
While the company has made strides in employing more women and creating more female characters in its publications, the clothing line is a step backwards, according to Comics Alliance.
One shirt insinuates that women should strive to marry a superhero rather than be one, the other portrays a woman as a “score” to Superman, shown in this Comics Alliance tweet:

Not to be left out, Target has a line of pajamas for babies and toddlers, according to this tweet:

Responses to the tweets ranged from “boycott the company” to “get a life and stop worrying about it.”
How would shirts such as these be allowed to represent such a large corporate image?
“Individual licensing agreements vary based on the licensee and their trustworthiness as well as the particular kind of products,” Janelle Asselin wrote for Comics Alliance. “These are not shirts produced by DC Comics itself or by its parent company Warner Bros., but they are tees that have to be approved by one or the other.”
Realizing the error of their ways, DC released the following statement after the backlash:
“DC Comics is home to many of the greatest male and female Super Heroes in the world. All our fans are incredibly important to us, and we understand that the messages on certain T-shirts are offensive. We agree. Our company is committed to empowering boys and girls, men and women, through our characters and stories. Accordingly, we are taking a look at our licensing and product design process to ensure that all our consumer products reflect our core values and philosophy.”
Any chance we’ll see a “Training to be Batgirl’s Husband” T-shirt for the guys in the future?
