George W. Bush golfs the honorable way; hosts ‘There’s No Self-Pity Here Open’

Former President George W. Bush hosted his fourth annual Warrior Open, Oct. 1 and 2, with 21 active and retired military members participating in the two-day, 36-hole golf tournament.

The tournament is one of two Military Service Initiatives at the George W. Bush Institute, honoring the service and sacrifice of post-9/11 veterans and their families, according to The Bush Center website.

Speaking to the wounded warriors at the tournament on Thursday before they headed out on the green, Bush said the tournament could be characterized a couple of ways.

“One, you can call it the ‘Courageous Open,’ or you can call it ‘There’s No Self-Pity Here Open,'” he said. “Any way you call it, we thank you for coming to support the men and women who have worn our uniform and the courage they’ve shown,” Bush said.

Former first lady Laura Bush joined her husband in the golf cart sporting around the course, as seen in this Bush Center tweet:

Prior to the start of Thursday’s event, Bush sat down with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade, who tweeted:

“Fox and Friends” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck tweeted the interview, which can be seen here:

A great time was had by all, by the looks of the president’s Facebook post. Congratulations to the winners — and thank you for your service!
