If the far left has seemed quiet lately, it may be because some of the members furthest on the fringe were busy talking among themselves during a recent ACLU conference at Princeton University and leaving the rest of us alone.
Jesse Watters, star of the popular “Watters’ World” segment on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” stopped by the campus to interview a handful of attendees on subjects from abortion to the War on Terror. The responses he received ranged from the un-thought-out to the clearly deranged.
In other words, pretty much what you’d expect.
Case in point, this exchange:
Unidentified Interviewee: You can’t try a prisoner-of-war [in court], what you can do is hold a prisoner-of-war until the war is over.
Watters: And you would release them when the war is over?
Watters: Isn’t that a little dangerous?
UI: (Blank stare)
Perhaps the woman being interviewed had no opinion because she really didn’t understand the question.
“Terrorism has become such a huge word, that I’m not really sure what it means,” she said.
What should the United States do about Islamic State militants who have beheaded American citizens, then, Watters wanted to know.
“Nothing,” she said.
Alternatively, perhaps she lacked an opinion because she hadn’t been given one by the ACLU.
“We don’t really have a position on the ISIS conflict. We’re not a foreign policy organization,” said ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero.
“You guys are fighting the War on Christmas harder than you’re fighting the War on Terror,” Watters replied.
A second unidentified ACLU member apparently sympathizes with terrorist attacks against the United States.
Watters: Do you think America deserves being attacked by terrorists?
UI2: How else are they going to get our attention?
Watters: Do you think if we listened more to ISIS, then some of the terrorism wouldn’t be happening?
UI2: They’ve got their own very extreme agenda, but we have people in this country who have very extreme agendas, [some] very fundamentalist Christians.
Watters: I don’t think that’s a valid comparison.
UI2: Well, the people who are killed are just as dead.
The video does not show the ACLU member explaining whom, exactly, she believes to have been murdered by “fundamentalist Christians,” which is probably just as well, as there’s very little reason to expect her explanation to have made any sense.
Maybe she meant the Salem witch trials.
Watters also asked about illegal immigration.
“You lock your doors at home, right?” he asked of the second woman.
“But you don’t want the doors locked on our Southern border?”
Bill O’Reilly asked Watters to sum up his opinion of the people he interviewed.
“You don’t want these people running things,” Watters said.
Well said. Not when every opinion they give causes critical thinkers to respond like this:
