Pamela Geller to remove beheading photo from public transit ads at Foley family’s request

Crusading anti-Islamist Pamela Geller is modifying an ad she planned to place on public transit in New York and San Francisco out of deference to the family of beheading victim James Foley, but makes it clear she stands behind the ads’ message.

The ad in question shows Foley on his knees clad in an orange prison suit shortly before the brutal beheading the terrorist group Islamic State posted on the Internet in August.

pamgelleradcrop0927newIt’s one of a series of ads Geller planned to run on buses and in subway stops to raise awareness of Islamist savagery.

In a letter posted on Geller’s website, Atlas Shrugs (at pamelageller.com), Geller’s attorney David Yarushalmi wrote the ad depicting Foley would be changed after Foley’s family complained in a letter Sept. 27 that it would “convey the message that ordinary practitioners of Islam are a dangerous threat.”

“The use of Mr. Foley’s photo in your advertisement will cause profound distress to the Foley family,” an attorney for the family wrote.

Yarushalmi replied:

“As a mother, and one who still feels the pain of the hideous murders of many in her extended family by the Nazis, and with friends in Israel brutally affected by Islamic terrorism as a constant of daily life, Ms. Geller understands and feels intimately the pain your clients are suffering,” Yarushalmi wrote.

“For this reason, and this reason alone, my clients have reached out as early as (Sept. 28) to the New York and San Francisco transit authorities’ respective advertising agents to pull the displays depicting the captive Mr. Foley prior to his beheading.”

On her website, Geller notes that the image of Foley will be replaced by another that will depict Islamist savagery just as clearly.

“It didn’t take but a minute to find scores of photos that would fit the ad. The ease of modification speaks to the magnitude of the problem,” the website states.

“Clearly, it’s not all Muslims, but there is a problem in Islam and we are prohibited from talking about it. Which is why our ad campaign is so essential.”
