CBS runs ‘Another Benghazi’ episode on ‘Madam Secretary’ that could backfire on Hillary lovers

The CBS love letter to Hillary Clinton called “Madam Secretary” gave new ammunition to critics who said from the beginning the new series was going to be a whitewash of the Clinton years as secretary of state.

But it might have done conservatives a big favor in the process.

Sunday night’s plotline included an attack on a United States embassy in Yemen that bore some similarities to the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the American ambassador to Libya and three other Americans.

To critics, like Dan Gainor of the Media Research Center, the episode proved the show – with the beautiful Tea Leoni in the title role — is an attempt to rewrite history to promote yet another leftist candidacy.

And only liberals would attempt to whitewash the Benghazi fiasco by doing the second episode of the show on its sequel. Leoni’s faux Hillary looks somber in a preview of the show’s next episode on Sunday: “Another Benghazi.” With a backdrop of protests and men firing guns in the air, Leoni appears oh so presidential. “I’m responsible for the safety of our people. I’m not taking chances,” the Fantasy Hillary said.

The episode will undoubtedly make both of them look presidential. Maybe Americans can elect Leoni. At least she can stick to a script.

There’s no doubt there’s merit to the argument. As Gainor points out, if network executives had been really looking for role models in the secretary of state’s office, they had Colin Powell as the first black SOS, and Condoleeza Rice as the first black woman in the job. (Besides being a two-fer on the identity politics front, Condoleeza Rice’s looks could have landed her the job of playing herself.)

But Sunday’s show solidified the conservative position on Benghazi. At first the attack was dismissed by the Obama White House as a “phony scandal,” a spontaneous riot of savages upset by a YouTube video no one had seen.

Then, for two years, libs in government and the media tried to make fun of it. Remember this classic “masturbation to dead Americans” joke by a Democrat running for Congress in Mississippi?

Those Democrat women are pure class. (Although they can be embarrassed. That Twitter posting has been removed.)

But with network drama like “Madam Secretary” making “Benghazi” popular shorthand for a government fiasco where Americans died, that nonsense over with in pop culture. And since that’s where the libs “low-information” base gets most of it’s “information,” that’s where it counts.

Even better, with the House Select Committee on Benghazi just getting going under South Carolina bulldog Trey Gowdy, that word is going to become more and more a part of the American political vocabulary – and not the way the liberals want it to be.

In the key dialogue from Sunday’s episode of “Madam Secretary,” the president played by Keith Carradine says the Yemen attack will look like “another Benghazi.”

It will be worse, the beautiful secretary of state replies, because it will look like “we didn’t learn anything from the first one.”

Thanks to CBS’s attempts to help Hillary, the whole country just might be learning something from it.
