WH spokesman pinned down at briefing: If al Qaeda’s ‘decimated’ who are we bombing?

At some point, you’d think they’re going to blush.

joshearnest0927Beleaguered White House spokesman Josh Earnest on Friday joined the ranks of administration mouthpieces spouting obvious untruths Friday when ABC News’ Jonathan Karl questioned him repeatedly on President Obama’s repeated claims that Al Qaeda had been “decimated” by U.S. counterterror action.

“In light of this major military operation against a group that was planning an imminent attack on the United States, is it time to revise and extend what the White House has said over and over again by claiming that core Al Qaeda has been decimated?” Karl asked.

“Is it clear now that was simply an incorrect statement?”

“No, it continues to be clear to this day that core Al Qaeda has been decimated,” Earnest answered.

If al Qaeda’s been “decimated” Karl persisted, why has the president launched a military campaign against it?

“I think one thing that should be clear,” Earnest answers, echoing his boss. “These individuals and this organization in Afghanistan and Pakistan were so decimated that they had to flee to another country to try to find another safe haven to try to get into a position to carry out attacks in the West.”

And and so forth.

Karl was being kind. An “incorrect statement” can be an honest error. Something that’s demonstrably false, and repeated over and over again, is generally a little more sinister than that – no matter how glib the repetition is.

Al Qaeda’s been hit, and the terror group doesn’t exist the way it did before 9/11, largely thanks to the Bush administration and tactics Democrats fought every step of the way — including the Democrats who’s now using them for his own benefit. But to keep claiming repeatedly that the group’s been “decimated” — which is a way of pretending they’re on the verge of defeat, is simply a lie, like the one about the “tide of war” receding, and Americans keeping health care plans they like.

Coming as it did the day after State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf embarrassed herself in a Megyn Kelly interview trying to defend the president’s invocation of a Muslim cleric who called for the death of American soldiers, Friday’s exchange was just another example of administration minions asking the American public to believe them instead of our own lyin’ eyes.

Really, at some point, you’d think they’re going to blush.
