Video: Armed gas station clerk kills two gunmen while fighting off wild robbery attempt

The three men who entered a Marathon gas station in Canton, Ohio, Monday night were apparently the last to learn that the clerks there always carry guns.

It turned out to be the last thing two of them would ever learn.

The clerk on duty that night shot and killed Antonio Gracia, 23, and Ronnie Lawson, 21, during an attempted robbery. A third suspect got away, according to WOIO.

The clerk, identified by his co-workers only by his first name “Lance,” was shot in the hip and leg and remains hospitalized, the station reported.

Surveillance video captured images of the would-be robbers.

Police found guns on both suspects, both of whom were found in separate locations near the gas station where the robbery attempt occurred. Both died after being transported to a local hospital.

Gracia had a felony conviction for burglary and was on probation for obstructing official business and resisting arrest, police told WJW-TV.

Lawson had just last month completed two years probation for obstructing official business.

One co-worker, who asked to be identified only by first name, Pat, said that most people in the neighborhood around the gas station know that all the employees are armed.

“Everybody that comes in here knows that all the employees here carry, you know and we don’t understand,” Pat said. “These people couldn’t be from this neighborhood, cause it’s just something that you don’t see happening here. Everybody that comes in here knows that Lance open carries.”

Co-workers and friends organized a “rally” to support Lance and set out collection jars around the neighborhood to raise money for his medical expenses.

Numerous customers had good things to say about the clerk, according to a second report from WJW-TV.

“He’s a nice guy, good kid, you know what I’m saying, don’t mess with nobody,” customer Jesse Burns said.

“I just wish it could be more support, more giving, more helping out, so he could get better, because all he was doing was trying to defend himself at his job,” customer Raquel Scutsey said.

The clerk has not been charged in the shooting.
