The story behind what many assumed was a faked photo that went viral last week has now come out, and it might be even harder to believe.
Driver Bo Monsoumbath, 33, said that the parking enforcement officer in the photograph had been sexually harassing her, leading her to believe that he wasn’t really who he said he was, according to KRON.
So as he wrote her a parking ticket, she started to drive away. The traffic officer feared being hit, so he jumped on the hood and hung on.
What followed was a scene from a 1980s cop drama.
“I saw her go by and realized there was a guy on the hood on his back, hanging on kind of spread-eagled,” said witness Allison Yates, who took the picture that went viral. “She turned right from that far left lane across all lanes of traffic onto Octavia. We caught up to her around Market—she was screaming, he was screaming, it was insane.”
Monsoumbath drove “for around a mile” after hitting a motorcycle, all while the officer hung on. Eventually, San Francisco police caught up to her vehicle and she stopped.
No one was hurt, but Monsoumbath said she’s still shaken by the incident.
“I was terrified,” she said. “I’m still terrified.”
Monsoumbath claimed that the unnamed “meter maid” offered to let her avoid the parking ticket in exchange for sexual favors. That’s what caused her to believe he was not a real traffic officer, she said.
Nonetheless, Monsoumbath has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon (the car) and a misdemeanor hit and run.
“I am still shaken up by the whole situation. I was sexually harassed then had a man jump on my car. I never tried to run that meter maid over. It’s clear I’m at a stop in the pic and I made several stops,” Monsoumbath said.
Yates agreed that Monsoumbath appeared upset during the incident.
“She kept yelling, “You’re scaring me,” Yates said.
“At one point the cars were stopped at the light and she actually hopped out,” Yates said. “She was yelling, guy on the car was yelling, motorcycle guy was yelling, and the light turned green and they all got back on and kept moving.”
Actually, it doesn’t seem realistic enough for a 1980s cop drama. More like a Coen brothers film.
