‘Daily Show’ lies about Redskins fans ambush by angry Native American activists

redskins-daily-showFour hardcore Washington Redskins fans have charged “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” with misleading them and setting them up to be ambushed by angry Native American activists.

Anything for a laugh, eh Stewart?

The fans understood that they were going on the show to defend their favorite team’s name, which has been the target of fierce political attacks, and expected to be mocked but never signed up for what happened, The Washington Post reported.

“This goes way beyond mocking,” Kelli O’Dell told the Post. “Poking fun is one thing, but that’s not what happened. It was disingenuous. The Native Americans accused me of things that were so wrong. I felt in danger. I didn’t consent to that. I am going to be defamed.”

A few hours after taping began, the Redskins fans said the room suddenly filled with Native American activists — including Amanda Blackhorse, the lead plaintiff in the Redskins trademark case — who began confronting them.

And they insist that it was all prearranged by “The Daily Show.”

O’Dell felt trapped and said that they got cut off every time they tried to say something. With the cameras still rolling, she removed her microphone and began gathering up her belongings when a producer came up to her.

“I said to him: ‘This is not how adults behave. This is not anything I signed up for.’ Tears were running down my face. I was shaking,” she said. “I told him to tear up my contract. He said, ‘I don’t know if I can do that.’”

The four knew Native Americans were going to be part of the show, but were told specifically that there would be no such confrontation.

“They told us they were going to have a fan panel, and, at some other time, they were going to do a panel with Native Americans,” Brian Dortch said. “So I said back, ‘Just to clarify, specifically, we’re not doing a cross-panel discussion right?’ The producer said, ‘Yeah, right. That would be too serious for Comedy Central.’”

Adding insult to injury, Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones pulled out some beer and chicken wings as if he were about to sit back and be entertained by the ensuing slaughter.

“Going up against Amanda Blackhorse? It’s like playing football and they’re going to have RGIII,” said Maurice Hawkins. “I am just an average fan. These are activists who have media training and talking points.”

(RGIII is Washington’s staring quarterback Robert Griffin III.)

But then, all is fair in politics and war. And football?
