‘WTF?’ Foul-mouthed talking Barbie shocks UK mom, Mattel responds

Foul mouthed BarbieA young North Wales mother was shocked when the Barbie doll she bought for her seven-year-old daughter was spewing questionable language – including “What the f**k?”

“I heard it loud and clear,” Talina Evans told the Daily Mirror. “We’ve taken it off her now. She was disappointed but she understood that it was wrong to swear. It’s very irresponsible of the toy company.”

The doll has several buttons on her belt, which when activated, make her sing or speak. She speaks 15 phrases from the web reality series “Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse,” including “amaze,” “to the salon” and “there is no substitute for glitter.”

The phrase which appears to be causing all the commotion is “off the hook.”

Mattel issued a statement, according to PR Week, which said:

“It has been brought to our attention that there is some confusion over one of the pre-recorded phrases from the Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse Feature Talkin’ Barbie Doll. One of the 15 pre-recorded phrases is ‘Off the Hook’ – this is a common expression used by the characters in the animated reality web series Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse. While the phrase may be heard differently by some who are not familiar with the show, all of Mattel’s products are created for both children and parents to enjoy and trust.”
