A 13-year search for the couple in a wedding photo, discovered in the ruins of the twin towers, is over. All six people in the photo are alive and well.

The quest began in October 2001, when Elizabeth Stringer Keefe posted the photo on social media, and reposted it every year, after receiving the memento from a friend who found it in the rubble of the World Trade CenterBuzzfeed reported.

“If it had a relationship to 9/11, I wanted to keep it safe until I could return it to its owner,” Keefe told The Boston Globe. “There’s so much beauty and happiness in the photo that I just felt committed to the task.”

After the photo was retweeted thousands of times and made it to Reddit, Keefe heard from Fred Mahe, who appeared in the background of the wedding photo, according to the report.

Mahe had kept the picture on his desk in the World Trade Center. He wasn’t in the office that fateful day, according to The Globe.

Keefe spoke to by phone Mahe and learned he still lives in New York City with his wife, Keri.

“It’s a beautiful, joyful moment captured in time, and it was such a contrast to what I saw at Ground Zero, which was still burning when I was there,” Keefe told Mashable.
