The president’s approval rating for handling foreign affairs and national security continue to decline in the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll.
“Only 43 percent of Americans say he is a strong leader, the lowest reading since he entered the White House. Just over half the country says his presidency has been a failure, although partisanship colors that judgment,” The Washington Post reported Tuesday.
White House Correspondent Jon Karl called the shift in public opinion from a reluctance to becoming involved again in the Middle East to a 65 percent approval for airstrikes in Syria as “stunning.” Speaking on “Good Morning America” Tuesday, he noted that 91 percent of those polled regarded ISIS as a national security threat, and said that most Americans consider Obama too cautious when it comes to dealing with terrorists.
Sycophantic host George Stephanopoulos seemed genuinely concerned that 56 percent of Americans disapproved of Obama’s conduct of foreign policy and that he had “real popularity problems,” but Karl said that beheading Americans and capturing large swathes of territory had convinced the public that ISIS posed a vital threat to American interests.

On Fox News Channel’s Monday edition of “Special Report,” columnist Charles Krauthammer offered that one criterion for Obama’s upcoming address to the nation on Wednesday to distinguish if it was a plan for rhetoric or for action would be his willingness to bomb in Syria, since the border with Iraq was a fiction.
Karl said the president was not willing to take a firm stand yet.
Thus, Obama’s pursuit of justice for the killers of James Foley and Steven Sotloff and the dismantling of ISIS may sadly resemble his pursuit of the killers of the four Americans in Benghazi exactly two years ago, and the destruction of that al-Qaida faction.
