Utter disgrace: Obama has no regrets over golfing after American’s beheading, just the ‘optics’ of the momentnt

He doesn’t mind being feckless and callous. He just doesn’t like the world knowing about it.

Asked in a “Meet the Press” interview by NBC’s Chuck Todd if he regretted heading to the golf course only moments after announcing the beheading death of American journalist James Foley at the hands of Islamist savages, President Obama offered one limp, bloodless, PR-obsessed acknowledgment:

“I should have anticipated the optics of it,” he said.

And it was all the media’s fault.

Seriously. Answering an undoubtedly fair question, Obama whined first about how tough it is to be president “when you’re supposed to be on vacation” and the problems of the world keep intruding on your down time with Michelle and the gang at the Farm Neck Golf Course.

“There’s always going to be some tough news somewhere,” he said – as bland a reference to the video recorded beheading of an American citizen as can be imagined.

It wouldn’t be a problem really, Obama suggested, if those damn reporters didn’t want to know what the commander in chief of the world’s most powerful nation has to say when his country has been attacked by filth.

Pity the poor guy for a job he spent years trying to get, then years trying to keep. He apparently resents every intrusive minute of it when he’s supposed to be on vacation.

But the worst part was the utter blindness of the response.

Check out the video here from NBC News.

Note that he didn’t regret going golfing only minutes away from announcing a savage attack on the country he swore to serve. He didn’t regret the parents of a murdered citizen knowing that their president had his mind on his handicap more than their headless son.

He regretted “the optics” of it. And blamed the fawning acolytes of the Washington press corps for putting his juvenile callousness on display for the world to see.

It’s like a widow getting caught making out at her husband’s wake blaming the neighbors for being so nosy.

“Part of this job is also the theater of it,” Obama told Todd.

And that was true.

But a bigger part of it is actually giving a damn about your country, its problems and all of its citizens in the first place.

Serious people never questioned that about Reagan, either Bush, or even Bill Clinton when he wasn’t embarrassing himself in other ways.

And when a president clearly seems to think the worst thing about an American citizen being savagely, publicly murdered is that it made him look bad and ruined his front nine, all the optics won’t change it.

This is one case where perception really is reality.
