The emails of five more employees tied to congressional investigations of IRS targeting conservative groups have been lost, the agency announced Friday, setting off another firestorm of criticism.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said the revelation was another example of the Obama administration revamping its story to suit the facts, Fox News reported.
“The IRS’s ever-changing story is practically impossible to follow at this point, as they modify it each time to accommodate new facts,” he said. “This pattern must stop.”
The IRS blamed computer crashes for the problem, stating, it “found no evidence that any IRS personnel deliberately destroyed any evidence,” which many citizens found hard to believe.
At least there was a strategy for destroying emails.

The five employees in the latest chapter of this ongoing scandal included two agents from the Cincinnati office who processed applications for tax-exempt status, a technical adviser to Lois Lerner, a tax law specialist and a group manager in the tax-exempt division.

Also on Friday, a Senate subcommittee headed by Democrat Carl Levin of Michigan released a report, exonerating the IRS of prejudicial behavior in the exemption process, saying both liberal and conservative applications were mistreated.

Three other congressional committees and the Justice Department are still conducting investigations, and Lois Lerner has yet to be brought to the dock for her Contempt of Congress citation. The IRS politically-motivated targeting of conservative groups probe is far from over.

This is our govt abusing its power to punish ideological enemies, crudely destroying the evidence, and laughing. http://t.co/mKHfP1wO5l
