Security team: Explosive new book reveals the truth about Benghazi, official’s stand down order

After two years of agency lies and cover-ups, three security operators who worked at a secret CIA annex in Benghazi are coming clean about what really happened the night four Americans were murdered.

Kris “Tanto” Paronto, Mark “Oz” Geist and John “Tig” Tiegen told Fox News’ Bret Baier that a top CIA officer delayed their mission the night the U.S. Consulate was attacked.

The Fox News special, airing Friday at 10 p.m., is timed to next week’s release of the trio’s book, “13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi.”

The operators said they were ready to help just five minutes after hearing of the attacks, but a CIA official stationed in Benghazi, whom they call “Bob,” told them to stand down and wait, Fox News reported.

“It had probably been 15 minutes I think, and … I just said, ‘Hey, you know, we need to get over there, we’re losing the initiative,’” Tiegen told Baier. “And Bob just looks straight at me and said, ‘Stand down, you need to wait.’”

After 30 minutes, the security team decided to go without their supervisors’ permission. When they requested additional help, it never came, they said, suggesting lives could have been saved had CIA officials not hesitated.

Ambassador Stevens and Sean [Smith], yeah, they would still be alive, my gut is yes,” Paronto said.
