Delaware Gov. Jack Markell has been forced to explain why a tweet sent from his office’s Twitter account was linked to a racy photo of a woman in leather straps.
Some are now describing the straps as “bondage” gear, according to Talking Points Memo.
Markell’s press secretary Kelly Bachman has dismissed the blunder as an inadvertent mistake, blaming “clumsy” typing. The tweet was meant to link to a photo promoting the governor’s most recent education initiative.

Markell’s office circulated a statement, apologizing for the mishap.
“While the tweet was being edited, the auto-generated link for the picture was inadvertently altered,” the statement read. “As a result, the picture linked to the tweet was a random, unrelated, and inappropriate picture that has been on the Internet since 2010, and not the just-uploaded picture of the event. The tweet was deleted and we apologize for the error.”

Although the tweet was quickly deleted, the image is still being circulated on the Internet.
“The lessons here are not to compose tweets too quickly and there is a lot of odd stuff on the Internet,” the statement said. “We just wish the accidental link had been a cat video.”
