Joan Rivers, the brassy comedian whose unvarnished style and politically incorrect brand of humor stood out in a lefty entertainment world died Thursday in a New York hospital.
Rivers was taken off life support early Thursday afternoon at Mount Sinai Hospital under the direction of her daughter, Melissa Jones, the New York Daily News reported.
In a statement to the media, Melissa Rivers asked her mother’s fans not to grieve too long.
“My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon,” she said.
Before going into cardiac arrest during surgery on her raspy vocal chords in her doctor’s office on Aug. 28, Rivers had been in the headlines for her vocal support for Israel during its war in Gaza.
Her take on it? Israel was right, and anyone who thinks otherwise is “insane.”
It was classic Rivers.
Funeral arrangements are pending, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
