The U.S. Army major who killed 13 people and injured more than 30 others at Fort Hood, Texas, recently wrote a letter to the leader of the Islamic State terrorist group asking to become one of its citizens.

“I formally and humbly request to be made a citizen of the Islamic State,” Nidal Malik Hasan, the self-proclaimed “soldier of Allah,” wrote to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Fox News reported Friday. “It would be an honor for any believer to be an obedient citizen soldier to a people and its leader who don’t compromise the religion of All-Mighty Allah to get along with the disbelievers.”
Fox News obtained the undated, handwritten letter the same week two Americans died while fighting for Islamic State in Syria, the network reported.
