Some of television at its finest.
When Emmy Awards organizers hit on the idea of using “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara as a living, sexy foil to the bland boosterism of the annual “isn’t television awesome” segment of the program, it was pure broadcast genius.
It was smart, it was funny, it was sexy and it was effective.
Naturally, the libs didn’t like it.
Here’s a sampling: (Warning: some rough language ahead.)
Sofia Vergara was literally put on a pedestal in a completely sexist bit at the Emmys http://t.co/BkR9EUlgih
— TIME.com (@TIME) August 26, 2014
Did they really just rotate Sofia Vergara like a kebab at the Emmys? http://t.co/FxxJvCaFi7http://t.co/9FsQHcnpfW

And, dude, check this out.
Sofia Vergara Was Completely Objectified In A Tone-Deaf Joke on The #Emmyshttp://t.co/lrqHrYrNsLhttp://t.co/m22f4Z8QGy

Like, completely objectified!
@washingtonpost @EmilyYahr And it was awfully offensive.

Please.
Without Vergara, the minute-long speech at Monday’s ceremony by Bruce Rosenblum, CEO of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences would have been 60-plus seconds of dead air, ending with the words “something compelling to watch.”
Instead, Vergara’s ingenue act made for compelling viewing indeed. With Vergara spinning slowly on a revolving platform – vamping and clearly enjoying herself (she has a better sense of humor than many of her fans, apparently) — it was entertainment with a message.
This guy didn’t get the message, but then he writes for the Huffington Post.
When the crowd wolf-whistled as Sofia Vergara’s backside came into view on a fucking spinning pedestal, I felt sick to my stomach. #Emmys

Sure.
Fortunately, the backlash against the liberal backlash wasn’t long in coming to the Twitter world. Here’s a sample of it, compliments of Twitchy.
that wasn’t an earthquake, it was Lena Dunhams ‘Feminist alarm’ going off at this Sofia Vergara bit #Emmys — Matt Oswalt (@Puddinstrip) August 26, 2014
(The cynical might note Dunham will never be invited onto a rotating platform for a sane audience.)
Dear feminists & pajama boys upset over Sofia Vergara at the #Emmys: Her body, her choice. Suck it, haters.

And how about this, from the objectified one herself:
Sofia Vergara blasts critics of ‘sexist’ #Emmys pedestal: http://t.co/6rJliY7aFr
— Entertainment Weekly (@EW) August 26, 2014
In a nutshell, she said: “It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself. I think it’s ridiculous that somebody started this —I know who she was—who has no sense of humor [and should] lighten up a little bit.”
Careful, Sofia, might make the sensitive guy sick to his stomach again.
