First a fair trial, then we’ll hang him
With a grand jury sitting Wednesday to hear the case of Darren Wilson, the Missourri police officer who shot an unarmed Michael Brown to death on Aug. 9, the Show Me state’s governor went on television Tuesday night to demand the cop’s “vigorous prosecution.”
And covered himself with shame.
In the televised statement, Gov. Jay Nixon was absolutely clear.
“A vigorous prosecution must now be pursued,” he said, according to a transcript released by his office.
“The democratically elected St. Louis County prosecutor and the attorney general of the U.S. each have a job to do. Their obligation to achieve justice in the shooting death of Michael Brown must be carried out thoroughly, promptly and correctly — and I call upon them to meet those expectations,” Nixon said.
That’s a decision for grand jurors to make — not governors. Nixon’s blatant tampering with the grand jury process was too much for Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who called Nixon’s statement “irresponsible and outrageous.”
It was pathetic too, since it was blatant pandering to the black voters of St. Louis and East St. Louis, whose support is vital for any Democrat hoping to win or keep office in Republican Missouri, Fox News digital news editor Chris Stirewalt told Kelly.
In a separate broadcast, meanwhile, Missouri’s lieutenant governor, called Nixon’s statement “frankly disgraceful.”

In a progressive world, “mob rule” and “justice” mean the same thing. First a fair trial, then we’ll hang him.
