Defiant Gov. Perry booked, photographed, and ready to run for president

Texas Gov. Rick Perry went through the ritual of being booked, fingerprinted, photographed and released on Tuesday at the Travis County Courthouse, following his politically-motivated indictment last Friday.

Beaming confidence in his propriety of actions and eventual exoneration, the Lone Star State chief told a crowd of supporters, “I’m here today because I believe in the rule of law, and I’m here today because I did the right thing. I am going to enter this courthouse with my head held high, knowing that the actions I took were not only lawful and legal, but right,” Fox News reported.

Perry was charged by a grand jury sitting in liberal Democratic bastion Austin on abuse of power, for vetoing the public integrity budget of County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, when she refused to resign after conviction of drunk driving.

Immediately after exiting the courthouse, Perry tweeted a photo of himself and friends enjoying ice cream at a nearby parlor.

Texas law does not require Perry to be present at his arraignment on Friday, where he will be represented by very high-priced attorneys.

Instead, the man who exhibits every intention of throwing his hat in the ring once again for the Republican presidential nomination, will be speechmaking in early primary states over the weekend, followed by an appearance at the Heritage Foundation on Thursday to discuss immigration.

Perry shows every indication of turning what could be a political nightmare into a strategic advantage, by demonstrating the overreach of government run amok. And in Texas, that is the stuff they write songs about.
