Obama, Hillary hug-a-thon turned into a snub-a-thon

While America waited with bated breath for the much ballyhooed hug-a-thon between President Obama and Hillary Clinton, it turned out to be more of a snub-a-thon.

At least, that was the case according to Edward Klein, who makes a good living these days peddling what he insists is a “blood feud between the Clintons and the Obamas.”

In a New York Post column published Saturday, the author of the best-seller “Blood Feud: The Clintons vs. the Obamas,” said Mrs. Clinton was “all smiles” when she showed up last week at an event on Martha’s Vineyard which the president was also attending.

The shindig was not open to the press, so Klein based his information on “sources inside the Clinton camp.”

The birthday party/fundraiser was the first time their paths crossed publicly since Clinton had offered some stinging criticism of Obama’s foreign policy in an interview. In the lead-up to this event, a Clinton spokesman released a statement walking back the criticism.

“Like any two friends who have to deal with the public eye, she looks forward to hugging it out when… they see each other tomorrow night,” the statement said.

All of which prompted the most talked about presidential hug since the Oompa Loompa tan man Charlie Crist slipped into the warm embrace of the president.

And while the onetime Democratic rivals sat near each other, and even joined together to toast the guest of honor, there apparently was no hug.

“[Hillary] and Bill Clinton went out of their way to ignore the president and first lady, who spent most of the evening on the dance floor avoiding contact with the Clintons,” Klein wrote.

But White House deputy press secretary Eric Schultz had a different take on the evening.

“A good time was had by all,” Schultz said.

Hug or no hug.
