Update – The Independent has reported that police have clarified that Bravo did not seek Siri’s advice on where to hide Aguilar’s body, and that the men were not roommates.
A college student in Florida is accused of killing his roommate for dating his ex-girlfriend, but the case takes a bizarre turn based on what authorities say happened next.
Pedro Bravo is on trial for the murder of Christian Aguilar, and authorities allege that after he killed his roommate, Bravo turned to his iPhone application “Siri” for help with disposing of the body.
Siri is an interactive digital assistant and knowledge navigator for iPhones. You can ask Siri to perform various tasks, like mark your calendar, read an email or provide information.
Three businesses didn’t get looted during
Missouri riots; can you guess why?
And according to authorities, Bravo allegedly asked Siri to help with getting rid of the body.
“I need to hide my roommate,” he is said to have asked the application.
And even more surprising than the idea that interacting with the app leaves a digital footprint is the fact that Siri responded!
“What kind of place are you looking for?” the application replied. “Swamps. Reservoirs. Metal foundries. Dumps.”
Sounds like Siri has been watching old “Dirty Harry” movies, no?
Pundits seem to agree the evidence against Bravo is overwhelming and that a conviction is all but assured, but it’s the new technology that is getting much of the attention. The question is: should consumers be made aware of the digital footprint smart phone apps leave behind?
