Media frustration with Obama grows as lapdogs start becoming WH watchdogs

After six years of kid-gloves treatment of President Obama, going back to the heady days of the 2008 campaign, the American press may finally be waking up.

But are the lapdogs becoming watchdogs?

According to a Fox News report, optimistically headlined “Rift grows between Obama, media as press groups blast administration ‘spin’,” a series of confrontations between the White House and press groups is building over how the administration releases information as well as the case of James Risen, a New York Times reporter who is refusing to testify at the trial of a former CIA official charged with leaking information about efforts to stop Iran’s nuclear program.

On Monday, for instance, Society of Professional Journalists President David Cuillier publicly dismissed renewed promises by White House spokesman Josh Earnest to declassify information and open White House visitation records in response to months-old press complaints about information management.

“Typical spin and response through non-response,” Cuillier said in a statement posted on the group’s website. “I’m hopeful the administration is sincere in its promise to increase openness and rectify the problems. But we want action. We are tired of words and evasion.”

How refreshing.

A good deal of the country has been “tired of words and evasion” for a good while now.

Fast and Furious anyone? How about Benghazi? Maybe the IRS targeting scandal? Maybe we could dust off some other spots like, say, Solyndra, or any of the other spots where the administration has gotten a free pass from a supposedly adversarial press. The legally questionable — probably unconstitutional — implementation of Obamacare alone would make too long of a list.

It’s refreshing, really, that the American media appears to finally be confronting an out-of-control administration.

It’s just unfortunate that it’s happening largely because of professional self-interest. It’s even more unfortunate that it’s coming two years after Obama was safely re-elected

But maybe that was the whole idea.
