While Dems slam Scott for ‘dodging’ media questions, Crist campaign won’t let Adam Smith on bus tour: The Charlie Crist campaign has decided not to allow Tampa Bay Times Political Editor Adam Smith on a three-day bus tour kicking off Wednesday. The tour will start in Tallahassee before heading to Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and Miami. A news release says it will “highlight Rick Scott’s $1.3 billion cut to education.” That’s the level cut in Scott’s first budget, but much of it has since been restored. Brendan Gilfillan, a Crist spokesman, would not discuss why they decided to not allow Smith to ride the bus. Read more
Conservative names to headline Republican Business Network’s Reagan Dinner: When Mike Rump needed a featured speaker for the Republican Business Network’s inaugural Reagan Dinner fundraiser, he didn’t have to look far. A meeting with Catherine Engelbrecht provided the key. Engelbrecht is the founder of True the Vote, an election integrity group in Texas. Her congressional testimony and numerous public statements about IRS abuses has become a central part of the controversy surrounding the agency and its treatment of conservative organizations. Immigration info needed for 93,800 Obamacare patients in Florida: Federal officials say they need to hear from 93,800 Floridians who signed up for health insurance under Obamacare to get more information about their citizenship or immigration status. They are among 310,000 nationwide whose applications cannot be completed because information is missing or doesn’t match records. The feds say they’ve tried to reach these people but have not heard back. Read more
Jeb Bush, Adam Putnam to mark 10 years after Hurricane Charley: Jeb Bush will mark the 10 year anniversary of Hurricane Charley tomorrow by visiting Punta Gorda with Ag Commish Adam Putnam. Then Gov. Bush and U.S. Rep. Putnam “toured the devastation of Hurricane Charley together with President George W. Bush in the days following the storm’s landfall in 2004,” according to a release. A recent Pew Research Center poll asked Americans, “Do you think the U.S. has a responsibility to do something about the violence in Iraq?” “No!” said 55%. Fewer than 40% said yes. Most Democrats, Republicans and independents are opposed. We all know the history: U.S. soldiers invaded and occupied Iraq, looking for “WMDs” that weren’t there. Read more
