Protests over the fatal shooting of teenager by police in the Missouri town of Ferguson led to violent rioting lateĀ Sunday as looters sacked convenience stores, a liquor store and other businesses.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, business owners were forced to turn out with their own arms to defend their stores.
“It’s bad,” said Jimmy Muhammad, whose uncle owns a United Mart in Ferguson where a front door was shattered by rioters seeking “justice.”Ā “I don’t blame the police, but they can’t keep up.”
The violence followed protests over the death of 18-year-old Mike Brown in a confrontation with police on Saturday. Police say the teenager struggled for control of an officer’s gun before the shooting, according to the New York Times.
But protesters said the teen was killed without reason. And to prove it, apparently, decided to tear up businesses in Ferguson that had things they wanted, like a liquor store and a Walmart, the Post-Dispatch reported.
