FBI abruptly halts odd plan to grade reporters’ work

WatchingYouA plan by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to grade media reports on their coverage of the agency as either positive, neutral or negative has been quietly discarded.

No reason was given nor were sources of backlash revealed, but the solicitation raised the specter of an all-intrusive Big Brother watching over you. Why the FBI wanted to grade how journalists and others reported their activities and what those measuring tools would be – other than “good judgment” – was also never explained, according to the Washington Times.

The contract was to be for five years and what the FBI would do with the results one can only speculate. But on Wednesday, The Times reported, the idea was dropped without comment.
