Former President Bill Clinton told Australian business leaders in a speech hours before the September 11, 2001 attacks that he could’ve killed Osama bin Laden but decided not to.
A businessman with access to the nearly 13-year-old recording turned it over to Sky News Australia. The report, broadcast on Monday, revealed Clinton saying, according to FoxNews:
“I’m just saying, you know, if I were Osama bin Laden — he’s a very smart guy, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about him — and I nearly got him once,” Clinton said on the recording.
“I nearly got him. And I could have killed him, but I would have to destroy a little town called Kandahar in Afghanistan and kill 300 innocent women and children, and then I would have been no better than him.”
“And so I didn’t do it,” he added.
The recording was the topic of discussion on Thursday’s “The Five.”
Co-host Eric Bolling asked if it could have changed the course of history. “I don’t know,” he said.
The lesson could lend credence to supporting the use of drones, Greg Gutfeld pointed out.
