The Associated Press may be one of the most widely known news outlets in the world, but make no mistake, it has learned to show its bias just like the rest of mainstream media. Although they’ve worked hard to maintain a reputation as a bipartisan news source, a recent tweet regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas shows they are taking a clear side.
As much of world watches Gaza war in horror, members of Congress fall over each other to support Israel: http://t.co/DepO2etLQS
— The Associated Press (@AP) July 29, 2014
The social media fall out was so bad that the AP quickly changed it, adding this tweet:
Many U.S. lawmakers strongly back Israel in Gaza war (revises wording in this @AP tweet: http://t.co/RZs5dh0m2L ): http://t.co/OvBKx75U6Z
— The Associated Press (@AP) July 29, 2014
The online community is also taking sides — against the Associated Press — for falling from grace again for the second time in two weeks. The last incident being a poor choice of words in a tweet about the transfer of deceased bodies from the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines Flight 17.
So now we truly know the @AP, which is supposed to be neutral, is on Hamas’s side.

Is this anti-Israel propaganda part of the @AP 's official position? If not, they might want to say so quickly. https://t.co/pnJdvkbG9n

This @AP tweet reads like the title of a Hamas press release: https://t.co/Nhg93WmM2h (the actual article to which it links is not as bad)

This week’s biased blunder of a post came from the opening paragraph of AP author Bradley Klapper‘s article titled, “With Israel at war, US lawmakers give full support.”
Klapper wrote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Members of Congress are falling over one another to show their support for Israel.
While much of the rest of the world watches the Gaza war in horror and scrambles for a cease-fire, U.S. lawmakers are pressing the Obama administration to take no action that puts pressure on Israel to halt its military operations.
Hey, @ap, nice bias with this tweet: https://t.co/voEQQHqUV0
— Queen of England (@QueenLizzyII) July 29, 2014
The backlash from the isolated tweet, spurred the news organization to sneak a change to the original article just five hours after it was originally published. The editorialized snippet now reads:
WASHINGTON (AP) — As the war in Gaza escalates, U.S. lawmakers are pressing the Obama administration to take no action that puts pressure on Israel to halt its military campaign against Hamas.
Many even have criticized the administration’s effort to stop violence that has killed more than 1,100 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and more than 40 Israeli soldiers and three civilians this month.
So @AP, *nobody* in the world at all *ever* watches Hamas flinging rockets at Israeli civilians with horror, right? #headdesk

The Associated Press tweet has not been deleted and is still getting a lot of attention, even if they did alter the article to better accommodate their readership.

Objective journalism. MT @AP: As much of world watches Gaza war in horror, members of Congress fall over each other to support Israel
— Marian (@singlemaltgal) July 29, 2014
.@AP touts its "commitment to the highest standards of objective, accurate journalism." And then, it tweets this: https://t.co/Nhg93WmM2h
— Avi Mayer (@AviMayer) July 29, 2014
@AviMayer How truly despicable. I think the @AP is letting their terror-loving underpants show. I want to give them a metaphorical wedgie.
