Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, threw down the gauntlet Saturday, predicting the House of Representatives would take up impeachment proceedings after the August recess if President Barack Obama tries to grant amnesty to America’s millions of illegal immigrants.
Speaking at the southern border in Texas with Breitbart News, the veteran congressman who serves on House Agriculture, Small Business and Judiciary Committees, said if the president “completely destroys the rule of law with the stroke of a pen,” Congressional Republicans will be forced to act.
“From my standpoint, if the president [enacts more executive actions], we need to bring impeachment hearings immediately before the House of Representatives,” King told senior Breitbart executives.
Congress has one more week in session before its summer vacation, and Speaker John Boehner has indicated he is not interested in impeaching Obama, because he has a lawsuit going forward and because the Democratic-controlled Senate would never vote for the bill.
The most outspoken congressman promoting amnesty, Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., has called on the Transformer-in-chief to expand the Deferred Amnesty for Childhood Arrivals program by including the parents of these illegal immigrants, an act which King described as “lawless and unconstitutional.”
He said complying with demands such as the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’s call for amnesty and a work permit for every illegal who isn’t a felon, “would cause a thunderclap of eruption in Congress and from the American people” that Republicans would not be able to ignore. He castigated Obama’s failure to enforce the law while social services struggles to cope with exorbitant demands and the government borrows money from China to pay for expenses.

While White House press secretary Josh Earnest argued on Friday that calls for impeachment are “political sideshows,” White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer told reporters that the White House was taking the groundswell more seriously.
“I saw a poll today that had a huge portion of the Republican Party base saying they supported impeaching the president,” he said, according to Fox. “A lot of people in this town laugh that off. I would not discount that possibility.
