With all the talk of former IRS official Lois Lerner’s missing emails, Fox News’ Megyn Kelly said viewers frequently ask if the NSA can retrieve them.
“Why can’t we get the allegedly missing Lois Lerner emails from the NSA,” Kelly asked former CIA and NSA Director Michael Hayden on Thursday’s “Kelly File.”
“Pretty simple,” Hayden said. “NSA doesn’t target Americans despite all those urban legends out there.”
After the IRS refused to make the emails available to the House Ways and Means Committee, investigators learned that Lerner’s hard drive was “damaged but recoverable,” according to Fox News.
Hayden proposed an offer to Kelly.
“I’ve seen the technicians at NSA take hard drives that terrorists think they have destroyed and actually pull an awful lot of data from them,” he said. “So I’ll make you a deal, you go find those destroyed hard drives, we’ll see what we can do.”
